also we did this thing on plurk where we were thinking about tales characters’ mbti types and of course i decided to do graces and i am more or less satisfied with what i picked for everyone (except i spent forever on asbel and still can’t decide) but i thought it would be fun to share and compare results

so if you have any thoughts on that (i mean if you want to do it now, is there really anyone else but us to think about this) we should totally…. talk about that…………

this is an awkward post

edit: oh right this is what i have btw it would help if i linked it huh

okay so this was interesting and i want to talk about it but i don’t think very many people on my dash care so i will put it under readmore —

preface: i am not… well studied on personality types.  even in my personality psych classes, i didn’t get much exposure to the specifics of them, and i’ve never really cared to read up a lot about them.  despite this, i thought this was really interesting and wanted to blab about it, so i did.  so, i apologize if i make reference to something that may not be consistent to a textbook definition of a type!

i agree with you on cheria, hubert, and sophie. agreement is boring, so that is all i will say on the matter.  i… want to disagree with pascal, but there’s not a really good alternative, so i think ENFP is as close as it’ll get.

for asbel, i think i’d say INFP.

possibly the weirdest thing about this is categorizing asbel as an introvert.  i like to think this is actually acceptable because of how he has trouble expressing himself.  he has a lot of inner turmoil in the first part of the game, and he deals with it by acting on behalf of other people.  he wants to get stronger (for his friends), he wants to reclaim barona (for richard), he wants to keep lhant safe, even if that means it’s under hubert’s jurisdiction (for hubert?  for aston? for lhant’s people?)

all of these things he does are physical reactions to his internal struggles and decisions. i feel like this is an introvert characteristic!

a lot of that argument also applies to the other aspects of INFP, too.
obviously not all of them do, but it’s not a perfect science.  but, i don’t want to get too rambly since this is already getting long and i’m only on asbel and i’ve got two more to go 8(

i had a lot of trouble with richard, in part because he undergoes a huge personality shift from child to adult to future arc because of all of the trauma (and because his whole shtick is centered around his conflict with lambda in the main game and that does not make for a really great personality assessment)

but in the end i basically agree that ENFJ is a good choice, with maybe a hybridization of ESTP

i really wanted to shift him to an introvert because he spends so much of the main game focused internally. he goes the first great many years of his life unable to open up to anyone other than asbel (and lambda, sort of).  this is pretty characteristic of an introvert.  but in the future arc, he’s lauded everywhere for his selfless accomplishments and gets along swimmingly with the entire party, having apparently come a long way in overcoming his trauma in those six months.

all in all i am still really not that satisfied with this characterization of richard but i don’t think it’s easy to get a good label on him because he’s almost two different people from the main game to the f arc

and lastly we have malik, for whom i share your lament that we do not really get a great portrait painted of.

in his youth, i think i would agree that malik was quite the visionary (in fact, that’s about all we get to see of his youth), and so i can see where you’re coming from with ENTP

but as he aged, i feel like his personality shifted toward one that is more like ISFP.  some of the ENTP qualities are still present and not totally unheard of in an ISFP, like being interpersonally perceptive and quite capable of a debate.

but, to me, malik has become more detached since his revolution ended in failure and he lost his only love.  instead, he takes a more passive role to life in his later years, resigning himself to teaching.  he retains his ‘doer’ attitude characteristic of both ENTP and ISFP, but focuses it differently.  rather than spearhead a literal revolution, he’s more content to help push asbel and cheria in the right direction, and entertain hubert’s observations and schemes as the only member of the party with the ability to understand them.

for some people, it’s really hard to pin them to just one personality type, especially when you’re given a way to see how their personality changes over time.  games like the tales series also have a fancy way of introducing serious trauma into the scenario — which often throws a huge wrench in someone’s personality and makes it impossible to judge

but yeah this was fun to think about!
